Barclays will change some credit card benefits

If you have a Barclays credit card, some of your benefits may change as of November 1.We have seen emails from Barclays to some cardholders saying they are reducing some benefits and adding other benefits to AAdvantage® Aviator® Red Mastercard®, Barclaycard Arrival ™ Mastercard®, Barclaycard Visa® with Apple Rewards, and Wyndham Rewards® Visa® Card.

Barclays has not yet announced how many of its cards will change benefits. So if you have a Barclays card not mentioned here, be aware of possible notifications in your email or with your monthly statement.

The benefits that Barclays takes away from these cards include extended warranty and price protection. Other features may be removed, depending on your card, including satisfaction assurance and trip delay insurance. Depending on your card, you may see additional benefits for things like cell phone insurance, roadside assistance, improvements to existing auto insurance, and identity theft protection.
Purchases made on or before October 31 for these cards will still be eligible for price protection.

Why does Barclays do this?
Some credit card issuer companies have recently adjusted or eliminated their card benefits – the goal is probably to better protect their profits while still competing with other cards. Citi recently cut many benefits from some of its cards - and Mastercard made some changes earlier this year, adding mobile coverage to World and World Elite cards.
Whether such changes will have any impact on consumer card usage or the competitive landscape remains to be considered.
