Federal and private student loans have different application processes.

Federal student loans
Start the application process by filling out the Free Federal Student Assistance Application (FAFSA®) at studentaid.gov.
Review your Student Aid Report (SAR). Usually will come about a week after you file the FAFSA online.
Compare your financial aid letters and accept all or part of the federal loans offered.
Complete the input consultation and sign your Official Certificate.
Get loans from your school after they have been applied to your student account.

Private student loans
Submit your application and undergo a credit check.
Add cosigner to increase the chances of loan approvals and lower interest rates.
Sign your Certificate and complete the Self-Certification Form.

Accept the terms of the loan.
Get loans from your school after they have been applied to your student account.
