Shell Fuel Rewards review® Mastercard®: Save more gasoline from Shell

6 things to know about Shell Fuel Rewards® Mastercard®1.

You don't know which card you'll get until you sign up Citibank offers two nearly identical Shell credit cards, except for one main difference.

Shell Fuel Rewards® is a closed-loop credit card that can only be used at Shell gas stations.Shell Fuel Rewards® Mastercard® is an open-loop credit card that can be used to make purchases not only at Shell gas stations but also at other stores.Sorry, you can't choose a Shell credit card to sign up for. You submit an application for a Shell and Citi card account that decides which of the two cards you will receive.

2. You can save money on gasoline

Both Citibank Shell credit cards offer initial discounts of up to 30 cents per gallon for your first five Shell fuel purchases, but there's a 20 gallon limit per purchase.
Shell cards will then be reduced by 10 cents per gallon (up to 20 gallons) when buying Shell gas. That includes a 5-cent discount from your Shell Fuel Rewards Card® Mastercard® or Shell Fuel Rewards® Card, plus another 5-cent discount through your Free Gold Status in shell's Fuel Rewards®. And if it will take more than 20 gallons to fill your tank, you can divide it into several purchases.
These gas discounts will be deducted from the price you pay at the pump.

3. You will receive a discount on gasoline when purchasing inside Shell gas stations

You'll get a 10% discount on the first $1,200 you spend each year buying non-fuel Shell products. This includes things that you can buy in shell gas stations, like candy and soft drinks.
Unlike buying gasoline, discounts will not reduce the purchase price. Instead, you will receive a discount as a statement credit when purchasing at Shell stations.

4. Only one of the cards helps you get gas discounts at restaurants and grocery stores

Shell Fuel Rewards® Mastercard® offers a 2% discount on the first $10,000 you spend on purchases each year at restaurants and grocery stores, and a 1% discount on other eligible purchases.
It is worth noting that you will not receive a 1% discount on purchases at gas stations competing with Shell.
And remember, Shell Fuel Rewards® cards are a self-contained card, so you can't make purchases or earn discounts when pouring gasoline anywhere other than Shell gas stations.

5. Automatic currency exchange makes it easy to save on gasoline

Just very little effort to redeem your gas reward.
You'll see the discounts you've earned automatically show up as statement credits for your Shell purchases in future billing cycles. And because the redeeming is automatic, you won't have to worry about your earned refunds that will expire or not be used.

6. Shell credit cards do not charge an annual fee

If you are trying to save money on gasoline, then it is unreasonable to pay an annual fee. So you'll be happy to know that Shell credit cards don't charge an annual fee.
Whether you're eligible for Shell Fuel Rewards® Mastercard® or Shell Fuel Rewards® Card, you won't have to pay an annual fee – meaning you can keep all the money you save on gasoline.
Understand your score and redeem optionsThere are two types of gas rewards that you can earn: discounts at pumps and discounts on buying fuel.

Shell Fuel Rewards® must be redeemed at Shell gas stations. But when you pour gasoline at a Shell gas station and pay with your Shell card, you will immediately save on discounts or discounts at the pump.
If you have Shell Fuel Rewards® Mastercard®, you can earn discounts at restaurants, grocery stores, non-Shell Fuel Rewards purchases, and other eligible purchases. The only discount you'll earn with Shell Fuel Rewards Card® is for non-fuel purchases at Shell stations, which is much more limited.

Regardless of how you earn them, the discount you earn with either card will be applied as a statement credit in future billing cycles to any Shell purchases you've made.
